Silver Triangle Tourism Concept Linking Pokhara, Lumbini and Chitwan
Representatives from the Hotel Association Pokhara Nepal, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Gandaki Province, and media personnel from Lumbini Province gathered for a strategic tourism discussion in Pokhara. The program, organized by the Hotel Association Pokhara Nepal in collaboration with NTB Gandaki, focused on developing a new integrated tourism model connecting Pokhara, Lumbini, and Chitwan under the banner of the “Silver Triangle.”
The forum emphasized the potential of packaging these three major destinations into a single tourism circuit to boost both domestic and international visitor numbers.
NTB Gandaki Province Chief Maniraj Lamichhane referenced earlier concepts such as the "Golden Triangle," which linked Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara. He explained that the proposed Silver Triangle could become Nepal’s next strategic tourism hub.
"Pokhara is already recognized as the tourism capital of western Nepal," Lamichhane stated. "By integrating Lumbini, the world-famous birthplace of Gautama Buddha and Chitwan, we can offer a more diverse travel experience that encourages longer stays and cross-regional exploration."
Bharatraj Parajuli, a central member of the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), highlighted the importance of infrastructure development. He stressed that a fast-track road connecting Butwal and Pokhara would significantly improve accessibility to both Lumbini and Chitwan, strengthening the proposed tourism corridor.
"The 'Jaun Hai Pokhara' campaign demonstrated the impact of targeted tourism promotion," Parajuli noted. "With improved connectivity, the Silver Triangle can become a highly attractive and competitive tourism product."
The President of the Hotel Association Pokhara, Laxman Subedi, highlighted recent promotional efforts, including a five-day "Jaun Hai Pokhara" campaign conducted in eastern Nepal. He also welcomed journalists from the Lumbini region, emphasizing the importance of cross-provincial media collaboration.
Subedi further announced that member hotels will offer special discounts during the upcoming Fewa New Year Festival, scheduled from April 12 to 14, as part of efforts to attract more visitors to Pokhara and the surrounding regions.
Additional speakers, including Kamal Rayamajhi and Nabaraj Adhikari, emphasized the cultural, economic, and promotional benefits of a coordinated tourism strategy.
Although the Silver Triangle concept is still in its planning phase, stakeholders agreed that a unified marketing approach, supported by infrastructure improvements and joint promotional campaigns could significantly enhance Nepal’s tourism appeal. The initiative is expected to diversify travel experiences and distribute visitor flow more evenly across key destinations.
Future steps include feasibility studies for road connectivity improvements and the development of a strong, unified brand identity for the Silver Triangle tourism circuit.
