Ready to Escape into Peace and Nature?

Whether you're short on time or simply craving a serene day outdoors, the Pumdikot via World Peace Pagoda Hike is one of the best day experiences Pokhara offers. It blends everything travelers come to Nepal for: views, vibes, culture, and calm.

Boat Ride across Phewa Lake (15 minutes)

Your adventure begins with a scenic morning pickup from your hotel after breakfast. From there, you're taken to Phewa Lake, where a peaceful 15-minute boat ride awaits. Along the way, admire the shimmering waters and the iconic Tal Barahi Temple, situated on an island in the lake’s center.

Feel the cool breeze and take in the tranquility before the hike begins.

Hike to World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa) – Approx. 1 hour

After disembarking, begin your ascent toward the World Peace Pagoda. The trail leads through:

  • Stone-paved paths and forested trails
  • Traditional villages and scattered tea houses
  • Rhododendron trees, chirping birds, and lush greenery

This part of the trail is relatively easy and ideal for warming up. The Pagoda, sitting at an altitude of 1,100 meters, is a peaceful white monument built by Japanese Buddhists as a symbol of world harmony.

What to Expect at the Pagoda:

  • Panoramic views of Pokhara Valley, Phewa Lake, and the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre ranges
  • A calm spiritual atmosphere, ideal for reflection
  • Opportunities to learn about Buddhist values, history, and architecture

Many visitors find this to be a place of healing and soul-refreshment. Please explore respectfully.

Hike from World Peace Pagoda to Pumdikot Hill (1,500m) – Approx. 1 to 1.5 hours

The second leg of the hike begins after some rest at the Pagoda. This phase is a bit more challenging but equally rewarding. The trail ascends gradually, passing:

  • Mountain View Café and charming viewpoints
  • A swing and a small traditional Hindu temple
  • Rustic forest paths and shortcut trails (optional)

Eventually, you’ll arrive at Pumdikot Hill, home to a towering 51-foot statue of Lord Shiva – a major spiritual and visual highlight of the day. From this vantage point, soak in jaw-dropping 360° views of:

  • The entire Pokhara Valley
  • Majestic Himalayan peaks
  • Deep green hills and shimmering lakes below

Pumdikot is a sacred site for Hindus. Respect the space and enjoy the cultural richness it offers.

Drive Back to Hotel – Approx. 30 minutes

After completing this rejuvenating hike, you’ll be picked up from Pumdikot by a private vehicle. This comfortable 30-minute drive takes you back to your hotel in Pokhara, ending the day with a sense of peace, accomplishment, and scenic overload.

Most hikers prefer to drive back rather than walk, as the hike can be tiring – especially the uphill stretch to Pumdikot.
